Can’t afford that expensive fabric? There’s still hope…
Fabric is such a crucial element of designing a room. It’s one of the biggest ways that you are able to add pattern and color and a really special print can be the difference between a bland and spectacular room. Unfortunately great fabrics aren’t always cheap. I have seen clients’ faces drop when they fall in love with a fabric only to hear the price quote which is way above their budget. Instead of letting your fabric dreams completely die you can always try one of these ways to incorporate a great piece of your favorite fabric. It’s amazing how far 1 yard, even a 1/2 yard of fabric can go!
These are even more fun ways to work in that pricey fabric!

how to break up a “set”
Alright, Mexico is over and it’s back to the grind. Luckily design is also my happy place so I am excited to jump back in to some e-design. My latest client’s room brought up a very popular subject: matching vs. coordinating. To me, there is nothing worse than walking into any room and feeling like the whole thing came out of a box. I hate when bedrooms have a comforter set complete with a matching wall color. If you have this, don’t feel bad, I get it. It’s easier to buy things that you know match. But, matching can sometimes translate to boring. Instead of aiming to match, try coordinating instead.
I added in various shades of blue, not the blue found in the bedding but, shades within that family. It is also important to not just add solids. The bedding has a great leaf design but, that doesn’t mean you can’t add in other patterns. Pulling from the navy accent color I added in a tribal pattern on the lumbar pillow and pinstripes on the benches. The grey striped rug also adds in a big visual punch!
Recently I started working on a design board for an e-design client and at first glance I labeled this room pretty “matching.” The furniture set matched, as well as the colors around the room. I was walking into a predominantly pink and turquoise room and I wanted to break it up a bit. Here is how I am going to attempt to do that…
