Today, today, today is the day! I love reveal day of the One Room Challenge! And how about those reveals yesterday…lots of good eye candy and I am not even done going through them yet. So let’s jump right in and catch up with my project. I decided to tackle a small but tricky area in my house- our landing. It is just small enough to be ignored and just big enough to deserve some real attention.
This area is so hard to capture because of all the weird walls but we did the best we could.
My contractor really outdid himself with this bench. It was nerve-wracking to sit back and wait to see the finished piece but he came and installed everything seamlessly. He also created these great end details with perforated metal sheets. I wanted to create an almost radiator-screen-like look so it would seem a little older, more vintage, and he nailed it. He also made them so that I can easily pop out the screen should I want to paint it one day…he must have sensed my design ADD 🙂
The sconces are one of my favorite parts! They are so beautiful and have a perfectly aged looked. They also have dimmer functionality which is so great for this cozy spot.
// sconces //
The roman shades are so wonderful too! I have been dreaming of this fabric living in my house for over a year and I am so glad that it lived up to the hype in my mind. A local seamstress made the shades and they are such a luxury. They are actually functioning and finally offer a little privacy that had been lacking.
The second the bench was installed we all flocked to it. The kids read here, I have worked on my laptop, and Taylor keeps threatening to sleep there. I asked for extra depth so it would truly feel like a daybed, even for Taylor, and I am so glad I did. Here is a photo to give you a better sense of how much lounge space it offers…
As always the ORC brought lots of hard work and stress but it was well-worth it. We feel like we have gained a whole new room to our house. This project really goes to show that with some creativity you can stretch your current square footage without a major renovation.
You also don’t have to break the bank! I kept up with my budget each week by utilizing itSums. It is like being able to clip images to a pin board that tallies your spending at the same time. Accounts are free and I promise you will no longer hate budget-planning whether it’s for a room makeover or a birthday party! If you are curious as to how I came out with my spending you can check out my actual ORC board, here.
