Just over a year ago we finished some major changes to our kitchen. Ever since we moved into our home about 12 years ago I knew I would eventually change things in the kitchen. The finishes were never quite my style and as our family has grown the layout just wasn’t functional. As we have plowed through life…three kids, a growing business, and general life stuff we have gone back and forth on our plans. Even when I thought I had my final vision laid out, things changed and evolved. Last time we talked (in this post) this is what I had in mind….
I felt good about this direction because it gave me that mix of historic and modern that I love so much. In fact, if I could build my dream house it would fall somewhere between these two…

I love the colors, the textures, and the mix of worn and sleek. To translate this in my kitchen was very important to me. We can get stuck in a rut choosing things that aren’t necessarily our style- they just fit the budget or are bought on a whim- so I wanted to be sure my overall vision was translated into the small details.
For the most part, my original picks were close to what I eventually ended up choosing. The cabinet color was the trickiest part and I am sure that my painter felt that I have deep issues but I knew this color would set the tone of everything and I had to get it just perfect. Putty is a word that my whole family could probably agree they never want to hear again, but putty is exactly what I had to have. I found the perfect one after much trial and error and a little tweaking. Here is a small peek…

It is Intuitive from PPG (I had it darkened by 250%- that’s how the store measures it) and it is exactly what I wanted. Warm, neutral, not quite one color or another. Just beautiful PUTTY 🙂
We have so much more to discuss about how I chose my backsplash, decided on finishes (my thoughts on mixing), and the small but hugely impactful structural change we made. I will dive into it all this week!

Oops, forgot to ask – do you have link to the cabinet knobs you used? I ordered the cup pulls from the link provided, but I want you to get credit for the knobs too.
