{Moodboard Monday}
That time between being a kid and becoming a teen is awkward for many reasons, but decorating for this age group can be a challenge as well! All the small toys are starting to be replaced by electronics or books and they are starting to crave a space that is their own private sanctuary. I recently worked on an e-design for a little boy who is entering the tween years so I was put to the challenge of choosing pieces that can hide the legos now and still look cool later. Here is what I came up with…
I stuck with a good solid grey and white base and added in masculine accents in blue and green. Instead of going crazy with color I tried to incorporate lots of textures…wood shelves, woven storage baskets, kilim ottomans. His existing furniture is a dark charcoal grey so I wanted the bedding to tie in with that. I love the faux leather throw pillow and pop of mustard!
As with most pre-teen boys, he is obsessed with Minecraft. Boy mamas you know that word well, right? I love how this art mimics the game’s signature pixelated look without being too theme-y. It could easily stay on his walls well after that obsession dies out.
This shelf is another one of my favorite elements of the room. I love how it can transition with his age depending on his interests. Right now it may be a collection of legos and in a few years it may be books and headphones. It will hang above his desk to provide more storage.
A classic foundation with a few handsome accents and this room is perfect for a growing boy! Shop everything from the board below:
