1 room, 10 minds, 1 design || the makerista
Thank you, Beth, for having me! This was a fun challenge and it was nice that you had great neutrals to start out with. Since I wasn’t really confined to working with a specific color, I decided to take a piece of art I’ve been loving for a while now (thanks to another wonderful blogger) and use that as my jumping off point. The abstract by Karina Bania just really speaks to me: I love the simplicity of it, yet it doesn’t lack color.
I simply built off of that and then added a pop of burgundy for something a bit unexpected. Hope you enjoy!
From top left, clockwise: prints | floor lamp | side table | side chair | stripe pillow | blue rug | sisal rug | coffee table | tray | glass knot | console | boxes | lamp | art | couch | pink pillow | blue pillow | burgundy pillow | patterned pillow
I love unexpected and think every room needs a good dose of it. I also love that lamp and have been eying that table at Target every time I go. I will also say that this is the closest anyone has come to the actual rug I chose! Great job Gwen…you just solidified your crush status 🙂 Make sure to stop by her blog if you haven’t already. And a big thank you to all of the designers who took time out of their busy schedules to create design plans for my living room. Next week I will show you MY plans and then the following week will be the reveal of the actual room! Cannot wait!

1 room, 10 minds, 1 design || little black door
Alrighty it is time to get back to my living room. Do you all feel like I am cheating by allowing other people to decorate my room?? I kind of think I am a genius for convincing these ladies to come in and breathe new life into my house. When I asked them if they were also willing to pay for everything they recommended none of them seemed game…weird, right?! Guess I gotta take what I can get (#victim). Today I have one of my favorite bloggers and friends. Elizabeth from Little Black Door was one of the first blogs I started reading 5 or 6 years ago, which is basically the beginning of time in the blog world, and I immediately loved her distinctive sense of humor and basic, don’t-take-anything-too-serious attitude. She can work an estate sale like no other yet somehow she comes home with things that aren’t musty and weird like I would. Let’s say hey and see what colorful magic she has up her sleeve!
Thanks so much for having me Beth! You know me well – mention a room refresh and some online shopping and I am there.You laid the perfect groundwork for the room, so what did I do?
I painted your buffet table, ‘campaigned’ it and moved your family gallery wall over to make room for some new art over the sofa and some additional lighting. Mood lighting. Pillows were kept to a minimum, I’ve got kids and I know where pillows end up – on the floor, and I added an airy chair that will not be in the way of the door but will give additional seating for when I come over. 🙂 Roman shades behind the sofa will prevent curtain smooshage (may not be a word but its a real life problem) and additional baskets keep toys and life organized.
I can’t wait to see what you do with the space. Thanks again for letting me play! xo
