So here we are!! Another One Room Challenge under my belt and it’s reveal day! I have about 4 million pictures that I can’t wait to get to but first I want to give you some links if you want to catch up on previous weeks: Week 1 , Week 2 , Week 3, Week 4.
Linda from Calling It Home called all decorating junkies and I jumped in to turn Harper’s nursery into her big girl room. She’s a big girl with a big attitude these days so she needed a big girl space!
Let’s start with the before…
Before
After
I feel like I can breathe deeper now in this room! It’s softer, brighter, airier, and just so much more in line with the rest of our house!
I tried to keep the accessories minimal since the walls and fabric involve so much pattern already. I love that these shelves just fade to the background and the books add the perfect pop of color. I repurposed the toy bins from her nursery. I also didn’t touch the stenciled walls. One of the first things people have always asked when they see this room is where we found the wallpaper. I love it! This is the stencil I used with this paint.
I had the shades made from this fabric by a local seamstress. I decided to add the navy tassels for a little something extra and to tie into the other navy accents in the room.
I fell in love with this fabric for the chair. Luckily my girl will still snuggle up for story time so I wasn’t ready to part with this cozy chair. My rockstar upholsterer made it look brand new and I may just steal it one day down the road for my office!

Nook Before
After
Before I get to the nook I have to take a minute and tell you about this rug. I was on the fence about whether I would add a rug at all just because it seemed like a place I could cut costs but then I had a lightbulb moment at the fabric store. They had huge bolts of this faux fur that reminded me so much of the shag and flokati rugs you see everywhere. Since we have carpet I knew I could just layer a piece of this over it and create that soft look without the cost of a real rug. I just bought a couple of yards for $25 and laid it flat on the floor. Harper loves rolling around on it and if I get sick of it I can fold it up and drape it over the chair or bed.
This little nook has always been one of the most endearing things about the room. As a little girl I would have spent hours playing princess in the castle or secret hideaway land. I have caught Harper doing both 🙂
There is no “vanity wall” before because she didn’t have any type of desk or vanity before. This is a big addition as she could spend all day playing with her makeup and dress up clothes. This piece will definitely be giving us our moneys worth! You can shop it here.
Garment Rack Before
After
Same DIY garment rack just slightly larger clothes (sniff, sniff). This piece is still my favorite and without a closet it is crucial for hanging clothes. And who doesn’t love seeing little girl clothes on display?!
Wall 2 Before
After
This painting is so special to us. When Harper was a baby I took a random photo of her in her carseat all swaddled up in a blanket. I loved how her little round face looked. I posted it to Facebook and one of my sister’s friends who paints emailed me asking if I would mind if she painted it. She said she loved the expression in her eyes. She captured exactly how that little girl used to look at me when I would glance down in her stroller. It is definitely one of my most treasured things.
That’s a photo of my mom holding me seconds after I was born. It took on a whole new meaning seeing this photo after I had kids of my own. It’s my mom’s love for me wrapped up with my love for my kids all in one picture.
Love this little boog so much!
Thanks for following along the last few weeks! I have been lucky enough to have a great sponsor for my One Room Challenge project, DHP Furniture. They graciously supplied the daybed for Harper’s room which is obviously the crux of the whole design. Harper constantly talks about her big girl bed and how she wants to have a friend sleepover on the little bed (trundle).
The Sophia daybed comes in three colors and would work just as well in a guest room, home office, & teenager’s room and DHP wants to give one away to one of you!
