Today is such a fun day because I get to share with y’all my holiday home tour! You get to come in and see how I tweak things to reflect my favorite season of the year! I am so thankful that Marty of A Stroll Thru Life invited me to join in because I admire so much all of the talent she gathers each year! Hopefully, you visited Summer of Simple Stylings right before here and saw her adorable house! I love it year round but it’s especially pretty with all her holiday touches!
I love the feeling that comes with December (really November) when the most important things seem to be gathering with your loved ones and enjoying traditions. Two of my three kids also have December birthdays so it’s a jam packed month for us! This year I tried to get ahead of the game by shopping early and keeping things simple. This bled over into my choice of decor this year too. I didn’t want to feel overwhelmed by holiday decor and for the first time ever I decorated our tree to match our living room rather than our traditional red and green approach. But, fear not, the kids got their very own tree upstairs this year with all the fun sentimental and handmade ornaments! But enough talk…let’s get to the tour!
Welcome…

I am typically a wreath-on-the-front-door kind of girl but this year I fell in love with these bells! I also love that they don’t scream Christmas so I can leave them up beyond December.
Because our living room is somewhat small we had to move some things around to fit the tree. This is part of the reason I wanted to decorate the tree to match the room. I feel like it’s not as overwhelming to the space when it coordinates. And it didn’t take much to convince me to go with a navy, white, and gold color scheme!
I also embraced simplicity with my mantle. I love the scandanavian feel of these little houses (Target dollar spot!!) and bottle brush trees. I put a small felt garland (also Target holiday section) on the mirror and called it a day. It actually took me more work to decorate like this because I had to edit. Choosing just a select few pieces was harder than just throwing it all up but I couldn’t love the end result more!
I continued the little trees on my console as well…
If you read my blog regularly, you know that I recently changed up my dining room. Mainly because I was dying to work in this large piece of art I had bought. Today I am revealing my newest art purchase that I just couldn’t resist. I don’t care where art comes from or how much or how little it costs as long as it makes me happy. The previous piece, as well as, this new one immediately me smile. This one just seemed to fit the serene peaceful feeling I want this holiday season to bring!
This simple ocean scene pulls in the colors from the living room chairs and reminds me of my most favorite place on earth! I threw a strand of garland up there to keep it festive.
I started collecting Santas years ago and they are my favorite thing to pull out each December! I have a thing for really small things so my teeny tiny nesting Santas really make me happy!
Even my bar gets a little festive touch…although the wine supply looks scary low!
As I mentioned, my kids got their own tree this year. I just couldn’t bear to not see our sentimental ornaments so I created a space that could be all theirs!
They decorated it all by themselves and I left it alone. I think the holidays should be filled with memories and I want them to remember being able to get in the spirit without their mom freaking over ornament placement (that has never happened before. ever. Riiight)
I also love to put some fresh garland in the boys’ room since they have this huge window. I did a similar take in 2014 you can see, here. That year I went all out with green and red but this year I pulled back and went with serene white bedding.
I stripped their beds of the summery striped duvets and opted for these adorable polar bear quilts and pillows *both are on sale right now too! I also snuck in another cute polar bear to their gallery wall. He will be staying after the holidays for sure!
I hope you have enjoyed my simple take on the holidays this year. Here’s to hoping we can all make lots of memories this year and start new traditions!
