Notice anything different?? The blog got a little make-over this weekend! Sometimes I get the itch to redecorate my house and sometimes it’s the blog. I feel so proud whenever I am able to tweak things on here because I am the least tech-savvy person I know. But anyways, I am in the midst of ordering some new custom business cards and while choosing the design for those I got inspired to change things up a bit. I also wanted to edit some of the information on this page so that it more clearly represents what it is I do. As with everything in life this venture of mine into “real” decorating is ever-evolving and designPOST has already changed a little from what I thought it would be in the beginning. All of it is exciting and wonderful though and I can’t wait to see where this next crazy year takes me. So, all of that to say beware of changes and edits going on with the blog throughout this week as I get things tweaked just how I like. I am always open to comments and suggestions so please leave me a note!

diy: colorful art
While blog hopping the other day I stumbled across the website Cocoa and Hearts and fell in love with the colorful art. It is so bright and cheery and definitely affordable. I have picked out several I would like to buy for my house! They gave me great inspiration for creating some DIY art for a client. I don’t want to discourage anyone from buying one of her pieces but I couldn’t help but think a recreation (I use that work loosely here!) was feasible. And in this case it was all the budget would allow for. Obviously the originals are much better but I think mine gave this room exactly the punch of color that it needed…
The originals:

My version:
I started by mixing lots of colors to get just the right shades. I used my kids washable paints and craft paint. |
Once I got the right colors I numbered them and mixed them in bowls with corresponding numbers. This helped me remember which color was which while painting. |
Ok, so this is not my client’s house. When I put it in her room it just didn’t work. I brought it home and stuck it on my mantle to protect it from my boys and next thing you know it has found it’s permanent home. Well, permanent until I get sick of it or use it somewhere else.
