My boys’ room has been one of my most popular projects to date. I have always loved their room and the way it feels kind of like a treehouse. The planked walls and large window really make it feel special and it’s been so nice to see that it resonates with you all too!
I began this recent makeover due to fall. I wanted to add in some cozy layers for the colder months and that meant new bedding and a soft shaggy rug. I knew immediately when shopping for the rug that I would be using my go-to site, RugsUSA. I always seem to find exactly what I am looking for, in fact usually too many good options. I showed you in this post how I navigated their site and whittled my options down.
These were my top contenders:
As you can see I chose #1. Although I really loved all of these rugs I had to determined which one was right for their room and that meant focusing on three main points:
1. Longevity
As much as I love to change things around in my house I really wanted to choose a rug that could be in this room for at least the next couple years. That meant that it needed to be a more simple pattern. For me, I find that I always revert back to some version of blue and white. I knew that even though this pattern was somewhat modern, the color scheme was in my comfort zone therefor I most-likely won’t get sick of it. I also like that it is shaggy and can most-likely hide a multitude of sins 🙂
2. Price
I was fortunate enough to be provided this rug by RugsUSA but that didn’t stop me from considering price during my search. Even free of charge, I still couldn’t stomach the thought of a more expensive rug being abused by two rambunctious, messy, food-sneaking boys.
3. Design
As I mentioned above, I really fell for the blue and white color combo but also the overall design. We have seen these moroccan shag rugs all over the internet and for good reason. They are such a great combination of simplicity without being boring. They are perfectly imperfect in my opinion. I love that the pattern is not complete and that it looks organic. I worried about some of the other choices being too dark or too ornate. I also really wanted to find a rug that was truly white and not cream because their furniture is stark white. This rug was definitely more white and matches perfectly.
If I had to choose a runner-up it definitely would have been this rug:
In fact I used this in a design challenge in which I recreated the boys’ room on a budget

So, thanks again to RugsUSA for providing the rug for this fun makeover! If you are looking for a quick way to give your room a brand new feel, add or swap out a rug! It is such a simple way to change the whole look of a room and the soft layer underfoot definitely makes everything feel more warm and welcoming. And if you are concerned with cost don’t be because RugsUSA has a sale going at all times. I swear every time I go to their site they are offering 50 or even 75% off. You can find great deals, like 8×10 rugs for less than $200! Good luck narrowing your choices and happy shopping!
