I have a pretty fun makeover in the works. Funny thing is, I thought I was almost done with this room and then I completely changed course. I blame fall.
Remember my boys’ room?
This was it right after we finished planking the walls.
We completely transformed our playroom into this dual room for both my sons.
And then I made a few updates and shared it for this holiday tour.
I added a much-needed dresser and swapped the toy storage to the other side of the room.
I also exchanged the tiny nightstand for a desk., giving them both some surface area and place to color, read, and do homework.
I felt pretty finished with the space except for a rug.
Then a whole new aspect came into play that has totally changed this room.
More on those changes later this week, promise!
With all these changes I decided to finally get going on that rug. It’s pretty standard that if I am looking for a rug I will head to RugsUSA. I am so familiar with their site after sourcing them for numerous client projects as well as in my own house. I have used their rugs in my living room and master bedroom.
They have the best selection and prices but even more important to me is there easy-to-navigate site. This is beyond helpful when you have rug ADD. When my family hears that I am starting a rug search they all go a little pale. I have been known to stalk them for second- third- and fourth-opinions and age doesn’t exclude you. I will harass my two year old for input if she’s the only person around.
Luckily I can quickly scan hundreds of rugs by using their filters.
For this room I knew I wanted something kind of abstract…vintage-feeling…kid-friendly but not overtly juvenile. I wanted some color and a loose pattern. Just meaning, nothing too geometric or precise. All of those adjectives led me to a lot of moroccan shag and oriental rugs.
Here is what I whittled it down to:
Which rug do you like?
I know it’s hard to choose when you haven’t seen the rest of the current room so here’s some inspiration I have gathered while planning this mini makeover…

I definitely leaned towards a cabin vibe. Think fall colors and a retro camp feel.
So with that in mind, do you have a favorite rug??
Leave me a comment and let me know your thoughts and then stick around this week for the final reveal!
