This may be the one and only time I am excited about a Monday. I have been anxiously awaiting the day I could share this client project as it has been such a fun room to work on! I have worked with these client before on their living room and we just click. I definitely do this job for the love of decorating but I also really like working side-by-side with other creative people and sometimes it’s the client who brings some creativity to the table. We bounced lots of ideas off of each other and sometimes my pick was the best choice and sometimes they found the perfect piece. And in the end the room looks collected, layered, and lovely! In fact, I am a little jealous of their fancy schmancy library!
This post will be pretty long but if you like backstories and before shots you won’t mind. And of course I will reward your time with a bright and beautiful after shot!
When we started the room was a total blank slate. There was a wall of empty bookshelves, nothing on the walls, floors or windows and no furniture. Honestly I wish I could walk into every room like this! They wanted the room to maintain the feel of a library- think wall of books and semi-formal feel but they also wanted it to feel livable to their family. They have a toddler so we had to take into account the durability of all the pieces because, well toddlers aren’t going to stay out of any room no matter what. Right? Like I said, there is a wall of bookshelves so we immediately honed in on a way to make them stand out. They were a light color wood and they completely blended into the walls and floors. Here are the plans I started coming up with…
