how to add warmth to a room with 8 items
Often times it’s the little details that can stall a room design. The furniture is in place and the walls are painted but you can’t decided on the accessories. It’s often those items that really give the room it’s personality and make your home feel complete so they shouldn’t be overlooked. Here are 8 items that will fill in the gaps and add some warmth.
I imagine these specific choices in a room that is traditional, cozy, and a touch rustic.
Although the style of the items may change based on your taste, I consider these 8 things must-haves in any room:
Table lamp
Even if your room has overhead lighting in place, a table lamp adds a little glow.
Find something that has a unique base like this driftwood one.
Throw pillows
If your chair or sofa came with matching throw pillows…don’t use them!
Grab a couple of complimenting ones to add a more personalized feel to your room.
Throw blanket
Rooms look best when they have layers of personality.
A throw is a great way to incorporate another fabric/pattern.
Plus who doesn’t love to snuggle up on the couch with a good blanket.
Art
I’ve preached it before and I will again, art can come in any price range and from any source.
Whether you frame a large drawing done by your child or find an unknown artist on Etsy,
just pick a piece that goes with your color scheme and that makes you happy.
Gold
You don’t have to love bling to add a little gold to your room.
Mixing in metals with all of the leather and upholstery gives the room depth and interest.
Rugs
Anyone that has worked with me knows that I am big rug lover.
And yes, even if the room has carpet you can layer one of these babies.
Again, it is a chance to add more style, more visual interest, more layers!
Baskets
To accomplish layers you need different textures too.
Add some natural and woven baskets for additional storage that looks pretty.
Mirrors
Mirrors create the illusion of more space and more light.
There are tons of options out there will fit your style.
So next time you are looking at your room and feel stumped on exactly what’s missing,
reference these 8 items. Make an effort to add 1 or all of these accessories and I guarantee your room will feel more complete and styled, rather than a bland space.
cobalt blue goodies
I hate to say my favorite color is blue because it sounds so common but truth is I love me some blue. I guess it gets more exciting when I say that I specifically love cobalt (with turquoise in a close second). It never fails, if I see a room that I love it usually involves blue. Lately cobalt has been all over the place. Here is my most recent favorite…
This room is just beyond…
The image is for Anna Spiro’s wallpaper collaboration with Porter Paints.
The bedding and side table are perfection but what makes this whole image are the pops of cobalt blue. In the lampshade, vases, and obviously the insane wallpaper.
I would give my left kidney for a room in my house slathered with that paper!
Here are some accessories that you can purchase now to add some cobalt to your home…

And there is one blue and white accessory that is all the rage right now…ginger jars! I haven’t decided yet if I am a fan for my own home. I have seen them look amazing in other people’s houses but I don’t think they are quite my style. But that never stops me from admiring how other people accessorize. Here are some ginger jars in action…
