Lordamercy, I have done it again. I decided to make myself a little art and hence brought forth a near break down. How these simple little visions turn into such a HUGE pain in the butt I don’t know. Could have something to do with the fact that I am not an artist? Anyways, alls well that ends well, right?! Let’s start with my inspiration…
I saw this image on Sherry’s blog when she posted about the amazing styling work of Annette Joseph.
Annette’s work is crazy good but what caught my eye was the painting on that left wall.
Unfortunately I can’t find the source on the artist so if anyone knows please leave it in the comments!
I love the simplicity of the lines and just it’s, uh simplicity 🙂
I decided to give it a go but, before I whipped out my black paint and canvas I forgot to think about the fact that this project would take some skills that I was not blessed with: precision and patience.
In my mind it goes something like this, “Sure. Just slap some paint down. You’ll have 16 stripes in no time!!” In reality it looks more like a crazy woman huffing and puffing around a dining room table, cursing painters tape, crying out to the gods above to deliver me from using a ruler!!!
My husband looooves when I decide to attempt DIY projects.
Here was my Instagram update midway through:
Anyways, I got through it with the help of many, many, many breaks and a crap ton of M&Ms.
And there she is in all her glory!
I didn’t take any “during” shots bc my process is a learn-as-you-go kind of thing and I wouldn’t dare attempt to give a tutorial in art! But, for the most part I just used a stencil (I cut from an old box), black craft paint, and a small roller. I really love how it turned out! And it helps add more black and white to my living room which has been a goal of mine.
Tomorrow I have a new Take Two edition and then Thursday I will show you two more
quick DIYs I whipped up and styled with this piece! Don’t miss all the action!
PS. A little tip I learned while trying to correct little mistakes…a Magic Eraser will take away stray painting marks. Once the paint was dry I used the Magic Eraser to carefully remove any stray marks or uneven lines.

You hung in there, and that's what is important. I think it turned out great! And good to know about the Magic Eraser. Is there anything that awesome sponge can't do?! 🙂
