1. Why the name designPOST Interiors?
I think the name of a blog(or any business!) is super important so I am a little embarassed to admit that I came up with mine over beers with my husband. designPOST had been floating around in my head because it stood for these four words:
Plan Organize Style Transform
My maiden is Poston too so it gives it a little sentimental value.
2. How would you describe your style?
Style, for me, is something ever-changing. I am definitely rooted in traditional but with a modern edge and always always comfortable. Whether it’s in fashion or home décor I want people to feel at ease!
3. How would you describe your own home?
A constant work-in-progress! My house has some quirks that test my design skills but I love how I feel when I’m here and that’s what’s most important.
4. Favorite places to shop?
There are two types of people: those who like to plunder and those who don’t. I am a plunderer. I am not a master thrifter but I love finding treasures at HomeGoods, flea markets, and little boutiques. I can wander fabric stores for days and I am also a Target devotee.
5. Favorite vacation spots?
Charleston- near Mexico-far
6. Biggest inspirations?
I am a sucker for good styling so window and store displays always get my mind racing. I also love picking up new ideas from magazines and traveling to new places. As far as room designs, mine always seem to start from a favorite fabric or pattern.
7. Where can you be found on the weekends?
One of the best things about getting older is realizing how much fun it is to just stay home. Real luxury to me is getting a window of time during the day to wander around kids-free and then wrapping up the day on the couch with pizza and a movie with my family. When we do splurge on a sitter our dates consist of a good local restaurant and wine.
8. Favorite part of decorating?
Everything. Literally love everything about this “job” and can’t see myself getting tired of it anytime soon. I love the brainstorming, shopping, interacting, and of course seeing the results of my ideas. Without this outlet I am not sure where all that creative energy would go!
9. How do you balance decorating for clients and blogging?
I really never set out to be a “blogger” I just started the blog to get the word out about my decorating business but then it took on a life of it’s own. I realized that I loved the process of writing and connecting with people as much as I love meeting with local clients so I have made time for both. Each week looks different for me depending which side has more going on but I love the variety and just try to keep a pretty strict schedule so I don’t burn out!
10. Least creative job you’ve had?
Telemarketer for my college’s alumni fund. Horrible awful job and breaking my wrist turned out to be a blessing as I couldn’t type, therefor do the job any longer!
So let’s see, what else is there to tell ya? I am a Carolina girl, born in South Carolina and have lived in North Carolina for the last couple of decades of my life. I spent most of my childhood in California and Florida and those places played a key role in making me a beach girl at heart. I will forever have dreams of living in a beach bungalow where hair washing is optional and we can eat outdoors year round.
Starting a business, blog decorating or otherwise, was never on my radar. I had always planned to be a stay at home mom and some days I am still shocked at the fact that I somehow ended up building this little venture but I have usually stumbled into the best parts of my life! I feel really fortunate that I have an awesome husband who works hard so I can follow these dreams of mine. And I am beyond grateful for the three spunky, loud, fun, and loving kids who keep my heart full. And for those of you wondering if we’re done…the sad but true answer is yes. Our family feels complete but anyone looking for someone to hold their newborn- I’m your girl 🙂
I am an open book, usually too open so feel free to send any question my way!
