Back in January I decided to start this series, 2016 Changes, to help me combat the urges that come with the start of a brand new year. It was early in the month and I was already knee deep in hypothetical plans for almost every room in our house. #designOCD
I decided to try and reign myself in by making plans that I could follow gradually, or not at all, just something to keep me from making impulsive purchases. I decided to start with our guest room because I was not loving the furniture arrangement. The desk was really not being used and it was to0 big of a piece to just let it continue to take up space. I sold it on a local site (sniff) and so the plans were off! Here is a reminder of what my initial thoughts looked like…
So as usual my plans have detoured a bit but here is how things are progressing…
Bed
I ended up buying this bed because I really like the style and color and it was a lot cheaper than the cane option. As much as I would have liked to have the bed from my design board it was more than I am willing to spend on our guest room. We haven’t assembled it yet but I am always a sucker for navy so I think I will love it! One of the main reasons I wanted to get a new bed is because my dog has decided to “mark his territory” on the box spring of our current one so it needs to go. I am hoping he will not do the same here but if you have any tips/treatments to protect against that please share!
Desk
As I mentioned, I sold our old desk and was on the hunt for something smaller. I need a little workspace but something more minimal and I loved the antique feel of this one. With the brown cabinet in there I didn’t want a dark wood tone and I love the honey finish of this one. It’s the perfect dimensions to fit right in front of the window now which I think will be nice.
Paint
I shared this snap on Instagram about my paint woes. Choosing colors is so hard sometimes, especially when you aren’t set on a certain color family. The room is currently a pretty grey but it’s a little dark (it reads lighter in photos) and I would like to lighten it up. I had those big bold plans for the olive green but I don’t like that idea now that the bed is navy. I am thinking a peachy hue like, Benjamin Moore’s Parchment or a lighter grey like, Paper White. Or I could go a completely different direction with Annapolis Green although I am afraid that is too similar to our dining room color. I think it will help to see the bed in the room. Hoping that gives me some direction.
Shelf
The last thing I have to figure out is some shelving for the room. I want something simple and white and here are some of my top contenders…
I like this one but not sure I want the side detail. Love this Parsons style one. Maybe I should just do floating shelves like I did in my dining room??
I have a lot of loose ends to tie up and hopefully before April 20th when I share my workspace as part of a fun blog tour! Stay tuned!

Can’t wait to see this unfold! I love the navy bed and desk! I say go for blush or peach if olive isn’t going to work!

I love the bed and desk! I would do a light gray wall, parsons shelf and add peachy pillows or accessories! Can’t wait to see what you end up choosing!
