I don’t know about you but I can’t run out and buy new furniture whenever I get the urge. It would be nice but we, like most of the planet, live on a budget. Luckily there are numerous creative ways to revamp your old stuff. If you are afraid of painting have no fear because there are some great tutorials on how to paint anything! And if you are still too afraid to pick up a brush there are also some versions that only require a staple gun or glue.
Craigslist make-overs and Goodwill re-do’s have been all the rage for a while now but what got me thinking about furniture renovations this week was a dresser I spotted in my post last Tuesday. As I looked over the word art I was distracted by this gorgeous office below…
what to do with your existing dresser
I feel like I would immediately be more creative in an office like that. I am always searching for inspiration for my future home office so I really studied this picture. To my surprise a lot of it’s elements seem pretty feasible (i.e. inexpensive). I have seen a pendant lamp very similar to that one, here and I found some barstools that would be a fun take on the ones above, here.
The rest of the room consists of painted trim with mounted hooks for baskets and storage (LOVE that idea!) and lots of re-painted furniture. Which brings me to the sneaky little dresser that I almost didn’t notice. Look closely and you will see that it is nothing more than a standard 9-drawer dresser that has been transformed with painters tape and a bright pop of yellow trim!
It couldn’t be easier to re-create that dresser:
Step 1: remove the drawer fronts and cover the trim between drawers with painters tape
Step 2: prime and paint the rest of the dresser a glossy white
Step 3: peel the tape off of the trim and paint a bright yellow
Step 4: let dry and replace drawers
Step 5: replace hardware if it is in need of sprucing up
voila!
