At the end of this week it feels fitting to just say…what. the. heck? This has been one for the books. I have reached out to my friends, so some of you reading know that I decided to check out for a couple of days. I let them know I was going MIA because I just needed to mentally refocus. When I said that I wasn’t sure if I meant 1 day or Young House Love style 🙂 Turns out I’m ready to chat it up again!
To fill everyone in we had a major upset this week…my precious little Harper knocked out two top teeth. She was running with her sippy cup and tripped on the rug, knocking out two teeth. It happened so fast and I am pretty much useless in those situations. Teeth injuries are not my specialty. I can barely even look at wiggly teeth in my 7-year-old’s mouth so I was not much help. I felt especially helpless because it was 7:00 in the evening and I really had no idea who you call/where you go for emergency teeth issues in a child. Luckily we got to the right people (Urgent Care then referred to a pediatric dentist) and Harper did great. She tells me now and then, “it huwwrts,” which is so sad, but otherwise she is playing and going back to life as normal. As silly as it may seem to people since they are only baby teeth, it has been really hard on me. I know there are worse fates and I know that this will heal, but it’s really sad to see your baby’s smile change in an instant. Anything that changes their appearance is just a little alarming, especially when it happens so quick and without warning. But we are moving on and being thankful that we aren’t dealing with something worse. I think she still looks perfect…and she has two big brothers who will beat up anyone who says otherwise!
Add to that whole saga a lot of work and a couple of headaches. The work part is great but I am not sure the term “working mother” is really accurate. You’re either working or being a mother. It’s damn near impossible to do both at the same time. At least for me anyways. I have been feeling the tugging in all directions and I am just trying to find the balance. It’s definitely a learning curve.
As for the headaches I mentioned…one has to do with our makeShop idea. Somehow our simple, fun idea turned into a lot more when I was contacted about some trademarking issues. Long story short is that we have a brand new name:

HUGS! and i feel the same as you right now- juggling and struggling and just bobbing up and down on the water. we can do this though! we are strong women! insert fist bump.

Glad to hear Harper is doing well…what a scary moment! Also glad to hear that you are able to "check out" for a couple of days and refocus. Everything that NEEDS to get done will…and the rest…save for another day. Enjoy your weekend.

What a week! So glad Harper is OK. Kids bounce back so quickly, don't they? As for you mamma, hang in there!! I can totally relate to your balance troubles but I know you are doing a great job in both areas. Us moms can be too hard on ourselves sometimes. And cheers to you for saying No. It is liberating. 🙂

Beth I am late to the party here but just wanted to say how sorry I am to hear about your sweet little lady and her two front teeth. Poor girl and mama! And I so hear you on the balance issue, especially when your kids are small and need so much of you physically and emotionally. Seems to me you are finding lots of ways to be creative with your work services and hopefully some kind of nice rhythm will happen between that and your family life! Here's to a better week ahead! (PS My son threw a frisbee and broke his friend's two front teeth on Monday, what is going on with teeth this week? :))
