I mentioned last week that I wanted to share more tips and tricks on how to attain a house that feels more like a home. Your home. One of the first things that comes to my mind when I think about making a house more comfortable and welcoming is greenery.
Greenery
Plants, whether blooms from your yard or dried stems from the store, add a natural texture to a room.

They can soften up the appearance of wood and metal and bring a laid-back vibe to the room.
And there is no limit on how and what you can display.
That is why this simple thing is one of my favorite tips for making your house more of a home.
No matter how much you are looking to spend, even if it is nothing at all, you can add this simple element to your home.
Grab a couple of sprigs from a tree or bush in your yard and pop them into a vase or jar…
via |
Mix and match whatever vases or pots you have laying around your house…
via |
Artfully arrange a single leaf in a vase or glass…
*Follow the link for instructions on how to make this work.

Use metal tins or a rustic box, think old soup can with the label peeled off!
via |
And there is no rule on what you can stick in the vessel.
Dried berries can add just the same feel…
via |
Or join me in trying this trend I have seen all over Pinterest.
Air plants…apparently plants that require basically nothing!

So, take a walk around your house, especially the main living areas and take stock. Do you have anything green? If not look for places where you could add a vase or jar. If you are cool with a short shelf-life grab some branches from your yard. If you are looking for something with more longevity and that is low-maintenance, head out and purchase some eucalyptus or berries. I have always had great luck (and prices!) at Trader Joe’s or Michael’s.

I love using live plants in my decor. The trick is finding the ones that can survive my less than perfectly grass green thumb!

I have the same problem. I just forget that they are three after awhile and assume that they can live without any care!
