I love this stage of the One Room Challenge because you really see the official participants start to sweat! I don’t say that in a mean way, I just love the anticipation it builds. Plus it makes me feel more normal. All of the ladies are insanely talented so theres no doubt their rooms will be awesome, I just love getting to see the behind-the-scenes. Have you seen Abby’s faucet?? How about the accessories going on at Albertina’s? And Sherry’s table bases…I may sneak in her house at night! All of these bloggers are going to knock it out of the park! As for me…
Are you still on track? Did you modify your plans?
I am definitely still “on track” in terms of how my projects usually go. I just looked at the calendar and realized that May 8th is way closer than I thought and I still have quite a to-do list. As for this week…
My most exciting news of the week is that I got the wood!! A friend of mine owns a remodeling business here in Charlotte (JH Custom Builders) and they do really awesome renovations on houses located in some of Charlotte’s most sought-after neighborhoods. He graciously offered this wood to me and I can’t believe my luck. It is reclaimed barn wood with the coolest aged look…
And a side note from the ORC for a minute…
Josh’s 4 year old daughter is currently fighting a really hard battle with leukemia. They are constantly on my mind as I can’t imagine being thrown into that world. How he continues to run his business and even think of little favors like this wood blows my mind! As just a tiny smidge of thanks I want to encourage all of you to go and donate blood. They are constantly urging us to do this because of the amount of transfusions their daughter has had to have throughout her fight.
Ok, back to the ORC…
I have started looking at brackets though for the shelves. This guide from Design Sponge is really helpful:
For cost reasons I will most likely go with something like these with a coat of spray paint:
I have not finished the cornice boards. Actually, full disclosure- I have not even started them. I am not sure what world I think I am living in but apparently this world doesn’t have deadlines. Pro. cras. tin. ation.
I did start planning the art for the room. I bought a great coffee table book on my trip to Furbish and I plan to frame some of the pages. I like the idea of just a couple of prints in large frames, like this:
(source)
And I am making another trip to the fabric store (this time sans barefoot baby!) to grab some pieces for little last-minute project…
That’s really all, which I know is kinda boring but I promise to deliver lots of stressful, nail biting last minute drama as I procrastinate to the deadline!! Here’s what’s left on my list:
make a table cloth
finish pillows
hang new curtains
table center piece
rehang cornice boards
figure out adjoining hutch area
choose brackets
choose brackets
hang shelves
plants/greenery
place settings
secrets, secrets, secrets 🙂

Beth, I'm so glad you mentioned your friend. I've been meaning to give blood for awhile and it's always a good reminder to do this, especially when people close to us are going through difficult times. I love how your room is coming together! The print and brackets will look great. I know I better start cracking on projects too!

I hope I encouraged lots of people to do the same! I know it would make their day to know people did it in honor of their sweet girl!

Aww, what a sweet gesture of your friend and your call to action for them! I was just thinking of donating blood after seeing a need on the news, my dad has donated his entire adult life and has some incredible amount of pints/gallons?? I have a mini version of your amazing shelving. 🙂
Shelia Dowd says
I can't wait to see the shelf w/ the reclaimed wood. I am a RN and I sooo appreciate your reminder to donate blood! Giving blood has a huge impact on someone's life and is a very minimal inconvenience for the donor.
