So, if you read my post last week I left you hanging on a couple of things…am I participating in the One Room Challenge? Will I tackle a room in my own house? Take on a client project? Well, I am happy to report that I am keeping the torture all to myself 🙂 I am jumping in for my 5th round of the ORC but if you are new to it all it is a 6 week room makeover series created by Linda of Calling it Home. There are the official participants who will give updates on Wednesdays and then linking participants check in each Thursday.
I really like working under pressure (remind me of that week 5!) and I actually have a space that is long overdue for a makeover. It doesn’t sound like much but our landing area has bugged me for a long time and I am ready to give it some life!
Our stairs make it really hard to get photos of this area but here is a look at things pre-makeover…
At one point I tried to put a little lipstick on this pig by way of curtains, a new lampshade, and some accessories. It did nothing for me and I just blocked this little area out for a while. I didn’t have the money to put into this space so I just stuck some things there (that we already had) and called it a day.
Our house is a renovated 1930’s bungalow style house and we really have to maximize every square inch now that we have filled it with 3 kids. I have made it my mission to not let there be any dead space so tackling this area makes me really happy. It’s just big enough to be another “room” in our house even if it doesn’t have a door.
I am teaming up with some of my favorite companies to make our landing a stylish reading nook with plenty of comfy lounge space. Here is the initial idea board…
I am going for a functional space to house books, games, and extra linens. I plan to infuse it with personality through fun fabrics, a few architectural details, and all the fun accessories! I know it doesn’t seem like a very exciting place but I vow to make it my family’s new favorite place to hang out!
Some progress is already being made:
The curtains have been taken down (the curtain rod now lives in my boys’ room)
The curtains are in the works
Sconces have been ordered
For next week:
Which lighting I chose and how I came to that decision
What I am doing about storage…right now I have a mountain of pillows and extra bedding piled on a chair!
This is going to be so fun y’all! Make sure to head over to Linda’s to see all of the people who are linking up. And make sure to follow along even on non-check in days by following me on Instagram and Facebook. You can also see where I gather my inspiration on Pinterest.

I just love this! I live in a 1921 bungalow, and I wish my upstairs had a space like this. I know I'd hang out there all the time! Plan looks super fun–looking forward to seeing how it turns out!

Love your new curtain fabric. Great plan and colour scheme. I find stairs and landings quite hard when it comes to art and accessories. Can't wait to see the result.x
