I get asked a lot if I will do small projects such as styling shelves, to which my immediate answer is YES!! I love the small jobs. In fact, they are secretly my favorite. Of course I love to see a total transformation of a room, but for some reason I just love to work on little areas like night stands, book shelves, and gallery walls. I think people might be surprised by how much these small vignettes can change the whole feel of a room. And if you are working with me, it can definitely be done on a budget.
I wanted to share my shopping tips with you and then also share some pics of a recent styling project (a.k.a long post!)
I spy pairs…
It’s so fresh and just adds a breath of fresh air to all of the solid items.
There’s just something inviting about having some natural elements among the shelves.

Stack, group, lean! It’s fine if you only see a peek of some items, it adds to the visual interest. Add some height by piling and create depth by layering.

Wood, coral, fabric, porcelain, paper, glass, metallic….
Texture is how you bring the shelves to life! Put smooth next to rough, and dull next to shiny for instant character and balance.

Love these large glass jars I found for a steal at Marshall’s:

Beth, I love these tips. Shelves are the hardest for me – I want them to be functional but also look fabulous. I love that you changed out those baskets on the top for larger scale ones, and brought in the greens and the green bottles. The end result is so pulled together, but not fake.

Great tips Beth! Just like Lisa, I have trouble with functionality sometimes! Love the way you pulled it together!
