Once upon a time I shared with y’all a sad little landing area in my house. I am still shocked that I let y’all see such an ugly space but I try to keep it real around here. And real for us means that a lot of rooms in our house are unfinished or not the way I want them to be. If it were up to me I would basically dump everything we own and start all over! One thing I am trying to do this year though is be more content with what we have. I am going to dig deep for excitement over little projects even if they don’t bring my house to where I want it to be.
This are is far from what I envision but it is at least a little more presentable.
Here is the before:
No curtains, junk piles, granny lamp shade, bad chair upholstery….
Here it is with just a few changes:
(I’m not trying to disguise my after with small pictures I swear.
For some reason these pictures came out really grainy.)
So the bad upholstery is still there. This project has been pushed to the back burner more times than I can count but, I swear I have it on the list for this year or at least before my oldest is in college.
I did add some window panels (love. Found at HomeGoods)
I also cleaned up the junk and added a few accessories.
See that fiddle leaf fig single leaf?
Yeah that’s all that’s left of it 🙁
I will say this here in the company of friends…I killed three fiddle leafs in 2013. THREE.
So baby steps. I still hate this area but a little less.
Let’s play a game…what three items would you buy to add a little more to this area??

I think you are doing a great job. I love the curtains you picked as well, but since that window is so small how about making some sort of dummy roman blind that went all the way to the ceiling and then just grazed the top of the widow? It might trick the eye into thinking that window is bigger/taller than it looks.

How would you make it work with the slant in the ceiling? It bugged me to death that I couldn't put that rod up higher!
Laura@Elegant Nest says
I like the little reading nook/landing you have. Not sure how to raise that rod with the slant. I would probably skip the curtains (even though they are cute) and leave the windows untreated…or add some matchstick blinds if privacy needed. At least your fallen leaf is still green! All of the leafs on my FLF are slowing turning brown on the edges and falling off 🙁 What am I doing wrong??

Thanks for the great comment on my blog:) Really appreciate it!
This is a difficult little spot you got! I do think finding some fabric you love for the chair and ottoman will go a long way. Also, maybe some kind of small console table or book shelf for where the ottoman is that you can put the books and other cute accessories on could work? Maybe? Good luck!

May your fiddle leaf figs rest in peace. (The landing area is so cute! I would've had no idea what to do with that space.)

This is a tough space girl! I would split up the chair and the ottoman (could you use the ottoman somewhere else?). I'd do a diy reupholster on the chair in a fun bright pattern, or try my best to disguise it with an Ikea throw and pillow. A rug layered over your carpet might add some pizazz and I'd do two more framed prints right below the exisitng ones where the ottoman is. Good luck! 🙂
