I know, I know why would I feel the need to change this lighting situation??
I mean, doesn’t everyone dream of a bare lightbulb precariously hanging over their tub?!
Spells r-e-l-a-x-a-t-i-o-n to me!
Truth is, I used to have a great light fixture up there until my wonderful husband observed that it was 2 seconds away from falling. Considering our kids take their bath here every night, that was a big problem!
The problem was with the actual fixture, not the cord so I dug around in my attic and found a lamp shade I had been hoarding. It cost $2 at a thrift store. I also scrounged up some leftover fabric and voila…
I won’t even bore you with the step-by-step directions on how I did this because:
1. I didn’t take pictures of each step
&
2. I basically made this up as I went along
There are some great tutorials on Pinterest though…just search “fabric covered lampshades.”
Anyways I did decide to spray paint the inside of the lampshade gold before I covered it to give it a little touch of glam.
The framed numbers are my sons birthdays.
I saved room for my next little bundle of joy’s birthday!
This photo was taken way back when my husband and I were dating.
My mom framed and gave it to us as an engagement gift.
It so sums up that time in our lives…just us two and so content.
I hung it right next to where I get ready each day.
And just for fun, here is a shot of it at night.
ps…my old fixture was no longer safe for hanging but works out great as decoration…

I love when a "problem" creates the opportunity for two great solutions: love the shade but especially the gold interior (so smart and stunning in the evening photo) and the capiz shell "fixture" as decor accessory is glam gorgeous.

I was told that having a dangling light fixture over a tub was against code, you are supposed to have a can light or something. I think thats silly of course. I totally want something like this for our tub area. The photo of you and your husband is too sweet!

Love the shade. Now if I could just find one large enough to cover my mega-fugly fixture over my kitchen table!
desingpostinteriors@hotmail.com says
Could the fixture come down so you could replace it with a shade and cord kit??
StagerLinda says
The shade looks so high end! How cool that you could repurpose the old fixture. Love your 'love' photo–great way to affirm each day.

It is a great reminder…and now I have a lovely gold glow to go with it!

That is by far the best shade I've seen anywhere….DIY no way! It looks like a Design Studio purchase! Congratulations.
Great use for the old fixture!

this is cute over your tub! I used the same fabric in pink around a lampshade in my daughters nursery but I ran it the other way. The fabric works in so many places!
