This weekend we got away for a trip to the mountains.. We were offered a free place to stay so we took advantage and headed to this house, aptly named, The Treehouse.
The views were amazing. I was coming off a really hectic week so it was so therapeutic to just sit and stare, because that’s really all you can do with a view that gorgeous. The kids were really captivated too. In fact, that was one of my favorite things about this trip, watching my kids be entertained by just pure nature. They were completely happy by finding the perfect walking stick, seeing wild turkeys, and hiking throughout the woods.
There were moments that it felt too quiet and too boring, but I tried to embrace it. Sadly, I am so used to my lists and the crazy pace of life that I had to consciously make efforts to be ok with slow moments. And I’m so glad I did because it was then that I really just took a breath and enjoyed undistracted time with my kids.
Oliver was my hiking buddy all weekend. I never knew the kid loved hiking so much.
We also did a lot of nothing. Mountain naps for this girl…
We drove into Asheville one day to walk around and we had some really good food at Carmel’s. I highly recommend it if you are in the area! Asheville is definitely good people watching. Lots of sidewalk performers and music. Street vendors and art. And cozy stores with books and good rugs.
It was a great weekend! We ate Taylor’s spicy chili for about 5 out 8 meals, made chocolate-chip pancakes, had coffee on the porch, watched old episodes of The Cosby show, and played lots of apple checkers. I am a little sad to be thrown back into reality today but grateful for our time away.
I am so ready for fall now too! I have a long list of things to do/make, most importantly carmel apples! I hope you had a great weekend too!
Tomorrow will be Lauren’s first-ever post and you don’t want to miss it!
