Do any of you have a room in your house that you just altogether avoid because you hate how it looks? Have you ever made a decorating mistake and then just didn’t know what to do to correct it? I have one of those rooms and it has sat neglected for a long time. Mainly because I just couldn’t stomach looking at the green paint.
BEFORE
When we moved in our house I did what a lot of people do and just chose paint colors for every room without any real rhyme or reason. I just simply chose colors I liked without considering if they all coordinated. I immediately felt like the green was a little too bold for my taste but we had just painted and I didn’t want to redo it. Instead I decided to swap out the shower curtain, hoping for a revelation.
BEFORE
Although it brightened up the space a little it only confirmed one thing…the paint color had to change! I wanted something more soft and neutral. I wanted it to be fun for kids but not look too juvenile, and I wanted it to be cohesive with the rest of the colors in my house.
That meant, first and foremost, changing the paint color.
I decided to go with Sherwin Williams Alpaca. I used this color in my recent hallway refresh…
It’s a great neutral greige with just a hint of lavender.
But paint isn’t all this bathroom needed so I quickly went to work on an idea board…
Aside from paint, the vanity was very high on my list of problems…
I sold it on a local site and purchased a great mid-century modern vintage piece…
I want to take you all through the process of making over this bathroom with me so I have several posts planned to show you how it all came together. The vanity got a huge makeover, the walls are no longer green, and I added tons of personality with accessories thanks to a fun collaboration with The Land of Nod!
Stay tuned for my next posts which will reveal how I
– chose art
– added something old
– turned a dresser into a vanity
– created a 5 minute DIY shower curtain
