I feel manic decorating coming on. It’s a real affliction. Something about this change in seasons or my inability to stay away from Pinterest but I am having some serious decorating urges. Luckily they are nothing a little paint can’t fix. I inherited this console from Lauren and she says I can do with it as I please…a blessing and a curse.
“Espresso” stain is just not my thing. I think everyone has a piece like this, probably also from Target a few years ago, and it just feels heavy. I really want to lighten mine up but I am stuck on which direction to go so I decided to make some quick mock-ups and run them by my stylish and more decisive peers…
Let’s start with some soft colors. Here it is in a muted minty green –
Or a mossy version –
But, keep in mind the artwork above won’t always be there, so do you like it green even without that?
Here is a pretty slate blue –
Or a steely grey. For this version I would want to change out the lampshades for something more natural (and so the slippery slope begins…)
Or maybe I sand that baby down and attempt some sort of stain or stain-looking something.
(Any recommendations for accomplishing this on a veneer piece?)
Or I get super-industrious and attempt a rope-wrapping version.
I love this with a batik style lamp shade but really would I have the patience or would I end up with hot glue burns and a console waiting for trash pick-up??
What say you? Do you have a favorite or a completely different suggestion??
I’m all ears and really appreciate any feedback!
Now on to something for you! In honor of the first official day of fall…
I am giving you all a pair of Frye boots. You get a pair! You get a pair! And you and you!
Ah, if only. Here is my real deal –
Now through the next month I am offering a special deal on design boards-
Buy one and get a second FREE!
That means that if you buy a design board for your kitchen I will also do one for your living room.
Or maybe you want help on your master and master bath. Or the kids room and playroom.
Whatever combo you want, it’s up to you!
I will honor as many of these deals as my schedule allows- so reserve your spot now!

I'm way into green these days, so I vote for the darker green option. And I love the lampshade change as well.

I love the steel gray with the beige lamp shades. You mentioned the other day it's easier to decorate for others than yourself…I have that same problem!!

What about the blue with rope-wrapped legs?

You can simply paint over veneer and spray with a clear coat to keep the paint from chipping. My vote's for the warm gray! Love it styled just the way you have it! Espresso is SO Living Spaces/ Target, agreed! lol
If you have a moment, would love to get your thoughts on my latest design!
