If there is any area of expertise I have right now, it is being a mom of a newborn.
I have that caffeine-addicted, sleep-deprived, baby-talking role down right now!
One thing I don’t have down right now?
Coming up with super chic gift ideas that will make your house and wardrobe fabulous.
I am leaving that to these girls this year.
I am leaving that to these girls this year.
So although I am not feeling up to putting together a list of cozy throws or the perfectly lacquered tray,
I can give you some hints about what that new mom in your life might be craving.
Ok, let me break down my wish list for you and explain why any mom needs these things!
#1: My sister gifted me a couple of these inexpensive tanks from Old Navy after I had Harper and I thank her every night. I wear them mainly for sleeping and they are great because they have a built-in bra shelf, which is perfect for housing nursing pads. I can skip my nursing bra and sleep a little more comfortably.
#2: This sweater robe was also a gift from one of my friends and I have sworn to copy her and make this my go-to new mom gift. It is so comfy and is perfect for those days when your hormones are a little loopy, making you hot one minute, freezing the next. It provides just enough warmth but breathes so your temperature is always just right. Plus it is really easy to just throw on over a tank and come off a little stylish.
#3: I love these simple House of Harlow studs! Let’s face it, after having a baby you are lucky to get in a shower every couple of days, so it’s nice to have some easy go-to jewelry to offset the look of your greasy, unwashed hair!
#4: I am not sure a new iPad case is crucial, so to speak, for a new mom, but it will at least jazz up your iPad which will probably be getting used a lot while you are stuck on the couch feeding the baby!
#5: A good perfume makes the world of difference on your best days, so imagine how nice it would make a sleep-deprived mom feel. (Refer to #3). I love this scent so much I almost don’t want to share it but I am feeling the Christmas spirit. It has a really light, floral-ish scent and is not overwhelming at all. And I love that it is a roll-on because the smell really lingers.
#6: If you have ever breast-fed you understand how dehydrated your body becomes. I am constantly slathering on Burt’s Bees chapsticks because they are the best! They really do heal chapped lips and they last no matter how much I lick my lips. The lip stains are nice too if you ever have a crazy morning where you are running out the door…which would be every morning for a mom.
#7: Just as your lips become dehydrated after a baby, your hair will also lose that gorgeous texture it had while you were pregnant. At least my hair did! After delivering, my hair always becomes really dry and coarse and I have found that this cheap shampoo is great for adding moisture. I used some of my kids’ one day and was shocked at how smooth it made my hair. Make sure to get the 2-in-1 Cowabunga Coconut. A great inexpensive beauty fix!
#8: Keeping on with the dehydration fixers this, hand cream is awesome and smells like heaven! I load up right before bed and wake up to much softer hands and cuticles. Why again, did I think having babies during the brutal winter months was a good idea?!
#9: For moms, most mornings you are going to spend a majority of the time dressing the little people, leaving about 5 minutes for yourself. Even if you are throwing on a ratty gym t-shirt or a shirt stained with spit-up, a scarf will at least make it look like you tried! Plus it can double as a back-up bib should you run into an emergency!!
#10: You body is dehydrated hence you will be thirstier than you ever have been in your whole life. I love Tervis tumblers and this style is even better for being on the go. And hey, if you want to fill it with Chardonnay instead of water, who am I to judge 🙂
#11: Two words= Gift. Cards.
Or is that one word?? Anyways, the last thing any new mom wants to do is cook. Or fall asleep at the wheel. One of my favorite things to get is a gift card. It is so nice to be able to treat myself to lunch, a caffeine pick-me-up, or the emergency Krispy Kreme original glazed!
So those are my picks and now that I have read back over my list I am thinking these ideas are good for any female!
Now to “accidentally” email this post to my husband. Uh, wait he probably already read my blog today like he does every day…right Taylor? Right???
Tell me I am not the only one with a husband that is not into blogs (even his wife’s)?!
