I am so excited y’all! Today is the first round of my DIY Summer School series and we are tackling IKEA hacks. I figured we all either already owned a piece from IEKA or could easily find a new one to zhush up a bit. I, for one, cannot wait to see what this group does so I am going to hurry up and get to my pictures so we can all scoot over to their blogs and see their projects too!
I’ve had the outdoors on my mind since summer is right around the corner (1 week left of school!) so this door mat jumped out at me. I immediately envisioned tassels! I have been dying to spruce up my porch and I knew this little mat would be fun and easy.
1. Pull out cord and fold
(I used a 7in. piece and folded 5-6 times)
The beauty of this project is that you can customize it so many ways.
I found this parachute cord at Hobby Lobby and they had tons of colors.
The size of the tassels can also be changed according to your taste. Just fold more and/or longer pieces.
2. Cut the cord and slip through the rug loop
Using your finger, create a space in the end loop of your rug and slid the cord through.
Cut the ends of your cord to get rid of all loops.
3. Secure the cord with a knot
Using a small piece of string tie a knot on the backside of the cord.
This could not be easier and I love the finished result!
The rope does fray a little when you cut it but I kind of like the worn look.
It has such a nautical feel and I couldn’t wait to style it on our back porch.
Tassels make me happy
My new mat fits perfectly with some other changes I have been making to our porches,
as well as, other parts of our house in order to get things ready for summer.
I will be sharing the whole tour next week but here is a sneak peek…
If you are just finding this series or didn’t get a chance to join in this week be sure to join the fun for the next round. June 18th we will share our hacks of thrifted items! And here is the schedule for the rest of the summer:
