It has ben far too long since I whipped up any kind of DIY project. As you know, I am not the most patient DIYer so I only attempt one when I’m feeling super crafty. Back in April I had the good fortune of heading to High Point market with Lowes and we got to attend a workshop hosted by Eddie Ross. He has been working hard on his new book, Modern Mix (coming out later this year!) so following the theme of his book, the workshop focused on taking thrifted, everyday items and using simple supplies to make them your own.
Eddie laid out some choices of projects, everything from plaster, paint, rope, and fabric. I immediately honed in on a pair of thrifted wooden lamps. He had already prepped the lamps with painters tape, as a suggestion, and I loved the idea! I used Valspar’s new Chalky Finish paint to give them a dash of pink. There were other colors I could have chosen but I really loved the idea of just pale pink to really spotlight the abstract lines.
I simply painted and waited for them to dry.
As soon as I got home I searched my house for the perfect place. I think they will eventually end up in my living room but I want to complete a makeover to my console before I move them. So for now, they are happily residing in my guest room.
This is perfect timing for an update to my guest room because we have guests coming this weekend.
Because this room also functions as my office, I usually have this cabinet full of fabric samples,
but when guests are coming I try to add those little touches that make it feel more welcoming.
I stash extra blankets, towels, books, and magazines.
I am so inspired since attending the workshop and have a list of projects I want to do.
I have a plan to knock some out this summer and I will be announcing more details on that in the next couple of weeks so stay tuned!
And speaking of Lowes, I am heading off tomorrow for a fun trip with them for an event hosted by HGTV Home™ by Sherwin-Williams. Make sure to follow along on Instagram for behind the scenes of our trip! I also have lots of fun posts lined up for this week. Tomorrow I will be sharing a huge custom gallery wall I worked on recently and Thursday is all the details behind my One Room Challenge twin nursery! See ya on Insta…
