For the One Room Challenge I am creating a new lounge area on our landing area and although that is a small space it has, of course, seeped into other neighboring areas like our bookshelves and hallway. We put up some long shelves a few years ago and at the time I wanted the wood stained dark to contrast from all of the white in our house. Now I am not really sure why I chose that but I definitely do not have it in me to paint them. So I am trying to get on board with dark shelves and that means a little tour around ole Pinterest for inspiration. Pinterest makes everything possible and beautiful, right?!
Here are some of the images I am studying for styling inspiration:

My shelves are more just floating shelves, no backing, but the dark stain has me craving a more cozy, library feel and, to me, that means a little cluttered. I am picturing books stacked and stuffed, maybe some art wedged in there, and a few random objects. We have a lot of books but I don’t think nearly enough for what I am going for so I am going to have to hit the thrift store this week!
I also have to make the trek to IKEA, answers 247 emails, plan for Harper’s birthday which is in 1 week, do a mountain of laundry, finish up the fall baseball season, blah blah blah…I am the only one with a long to-do list I’m sure 😉

We painted our library (shelves, trim, and all) a dark olive green and I love it! I was a bit scared for that first brush stroke, but no regrets.

You'll never guess what I did over the weekend… 😉
