I have worked with two different clients lately, both of whom requested help on small areas. I love these kinds of projects because I can focus on creating a small vignette. For the first client, I worked on her entryway. We are almost done, but still waiting on a rug to finish off the space. She had a small chest that she wanted to use so I just styled it with new accessories to give it an update.
BEFORE:
Sometimes I feel like a traveling store when I show up for styling projects. I try to bring as many accessories as I can so that I have plenty to work with. This load is just for one small entryway!
Who knows, they may want an umbrella stroller for that special touch…
And sometimes it gets a little comical when I am having an inner commentary that sounds a little like this…”white with pattern or white on white?” “woven with frames or metal with plant?” “big frame with little vase or glass with greenery?”
It takes a lot of little tweaks to land on the set-up that works.
(Ignore all the tags!)
A pair of lamps were the main thing I felt this area needed. They add balance and it makes this chest look more like a designated entryway instead of just a place to throw some pictures.
I played around with solid white, glass, and resin.
We also looked at a couple of options for shades. I really love this trellis pattern because it somehow just goes with everything.
I also swapped out different trays. You would think a small tray is not that big of a deal but, changing it from woven to metal to faux crocodile leather really affected the whole look.
I didn’t even notice that the above lamps weren’t exactly the same until looking back through pictures. Good thing they were not the final pick!
AFTER:
We both loved this green tray but, decided a woven basket fit with her house more.
Most of the time it’s just a few accessories that can decide the look of a space. This green tray was just a little too dressy for her house, especially when paired with the antique buffet. It needed a little toning down so that her house is more of a mix of formal and casual (as I posted about here.)
She decided on the white on white lamps for their simplicity. She is the mom of three young boys so I think anything that represents calm and collected suits her 🙂
I love how they are a smidge modern against the traditional chest. I also love that they really brighten the space. All of the other elements bring just the right amount of texture.
Clearing the table of all the mismatched frames really helped declutter the space. Now there is actually room for keys or mail and the surface looks intentional instead of an afterthought.
My second client has me working on a large gallery wall. I am headed there this morning to begin hanging so make sure to check in through Instagram to see how it’s progressing! It’s a 13x8ft wall so there is a lot to fill….wish me luck!
