Fabric is such a crucial element of designing a room. It’s one of the biggest ways that you are able to add pattern and color and a really special print can be the difference between a bland and spectacular room. Unfortunately great fabrics aren’t always cheap. I have seen clients’ faces drop when they fall in love with a fabric only to hear the price quote which is way above their budget. Instead of letting your fabric dreams completely die you can always try one of these ways to incorporate a great piece of your favorite fabric. It’s amazing how far 1 yard, even a 1/2 yard of fabric can go!
Lumbar pillow
I used a remnant piece from my cornice board fabric to have this lumbar made.
It adds so much POW!
Lampshade
I used another remnant piece (less than 1/2 a yard) to cover this $2 Goodwill lampshade.
It adds just the perfect amount of pattern to my master bathroom.
Chair Cushion
I recovered two cafe chairs with less than 1/2 a yard.
This was a vinyl fabric that works great for spills and outdoors.
Cover a Canvas
This is a simple way to turn fabric into art. I hung a canvas over each of my boys’ beds with Command Strips so they are removable..perfect for renters or dorm rooms!
Faux Roman Shade
This was a quick no-sew project that I busted out in less than an hour!
These are even more fun ways to work in that pricey fabric!

Great ideas, Beth! Calico Corners will let you order large samples (18 x 18 and sometimes larger) for $8, I've used them for the front of pillows before.

Thank you and can you believe it was a $10 Goodwill score? I am not very good at thrifting but that one was a win!

so, so true! These are great suggestions. I was recently pondering this when the fabric I wanted to reupholster my couch with was just soooo…expensive…so I'm thinking just two throw pillows for now.
