Hello friends! I am sitting here writing this blog post the day after my birthday (June 30th I turned 38!) so I am feeling pretty thankful and aware of all the good things in my life. When I posted a sappy post yesterday about how grateful I am for all the good things in my life I found myself listing all the groups of people that make my life complete and one of those groups was the people I have met through my job. I have been fortunate enough to have some pretty great clients and I know all of those clients wouldn’t be here without the start of this blog and all of you who have read, supported, and shared it. I actually started this blog as a gift to myself in 2011 and I am so glad I took that leap!
I thought I would share a little challenge I am taking part of for July and maybe some of you will want to join in with me!? I could use some moral support on this one guys! I recently started following Nashville Life Concierge and Virginia has quickly become a favorite IG account for me. I love her genuine, real personality and the fact that you can tell she really is sharing stuff that means something to her. She shares lots of great workout and nutrition tips but she is also big on editing your life. I am constantly feeling guilt about the excess in our lives so when she proposed this challenge for July I decided to see if I have it in me….
TO NOT BUY ANYTHING FOR THE MONTH OF JULY!
Yep, you heard me right- not.buying.one.thing this whole month. I know, I know it seems impossible but isn’t that exactly why we should do it?! Obviously food and necessities are ok but you can’t try to throw in things like that cute necklace from Target as a “necessity.” Surely if we look in our closets or around our houses we would realize there’s nothing that we really need in a dire way, right? I am not lecturing, I am saying this as much as a reminder for myself as anyone. The funny thing is when I sat down to write this blog post I began it as a round up of my favorite things from this past month but it felt wrong to share some great deal on a rug or that light you just have to have when I am trying to cut back on excess spending. This isn’t forever friends, it’s one month, and it’s a good way to hit the rest button on our thinking when it comes to spending all that money!

So instead of sharing more things you could buy I am going to share some tips this month about how to make the most of what you already have. Maybe you could do an accessory swap. Maybe you can shop your house. Maybe you can rearrange your furniture. Who knows, but let’s have some fun just enjoying what we have already worked so hard for! Okay? You with me? You can see her official rules here. I plan to just only buy things we have to have like food, toiletries (paper towels, toilet paper, toothpaste etc. NOT nail polish, make up or perfume 🙂 ) And I am extending this to my whole family…no new toys, books, kids clothes etc! I know my crew could benefit from focusing on thankfulness for a few weeks!
I am trying to think of something to tack onto this like, donating to a charity this month or volunteering as a family so I will let you know what I come up with. As for the blog I am going to come up with a 4 week series on was to refresh things without spending money. Let me know in the comments if you have any ideas for posts you’d like to see. I know blogs are not as much a part of daily life anymore so also make sure to check in on Instagram/Facebook/Instastories for updates on how we are doing with this challenge! I’d love to know if you are taking the plunge with us…leave a comment here or any of my pages!

I’m in! Kicking off July with a mission trip to Costa Rica, which I think will get me in the right mindset. Except I will have to buy coffee there to bring home. Coffee falls under necessity? Right? ?Looking forward to following along with this.

Ok – I’m late to this, but I’m going to try to do it. It’s normal to break out in hives and a cold sweat right?
