Welcome back to another edition of “5 Things”- my new series where some of my favorite bloggers share 5 of their favorites. Today we have a girl after my own heart with all her use of color! She is not afraid to go bold and I lover her for it! If you are not already reading Vivid Hue Home, what are you waiting for?! Trust…it will make you happy!
Hi! I’m Heather from Vivid Hue Home and I’m so flattered that Beth asked me to participate in her ‘5 Things’ series. Blogging about design via Vivid Hue Home has been a great avenue to satisfy my appetite
decorating! My love for decor is insatiable and I am constantly
thinking of ways to remodel or redecorate a room.

My philosophy is you should have fun with design. Don’t be timid to mix and
match patterns and styles. Use color. Mix antique with modern, flea market with
new. Have fun. Show your personality. You can’t go wrong with doing what feels
right.

I’m happy to share with you, my 5 Favorite Things:
1. Favorite Place: West Village, NYC in the fall
Yes, it’s cliche to say ‘I love NY,’ but it’s true. It’s where I spent my late twenties and early thirties. I worked long hours like a dog at a teeny-bopper entertainment company and played just as hard in the after hours of lower Manhattan. It’s where I met my husband. It’s where I spent many fall weekends scouring vintage shops and breathing in the energy of the city. Even now, when I go back, I get the same hop, skip and jump to my step that I felt when I lived there.
2. Favorite Accessory: Lacquered Walls
Miles Redd, Mary McDonald, Jonathan Adler…all the greats have used this technique to enhance their fabulous decor. A lacquered room delivers a high impact. It creates drama in a room. Sure, the look isn’t for everyone, but you forget, this is Vivid Hue Home and I love the drama! I tried to create this look in my own study, but the high gloss wasn’t as lacquered as I’d dreamed! Oh one day!
3. Favorite Meal: Cheese. And Wine…in Napa
Ok, cheese as a meal is a stretch. But you add some wine into the mix and we’re starting to get somewhere. Plus, who doesn’t love a wonderful afternoon outside sipping vino and munching on some cheese pairings.
4. Favorite Color: Tangerine, Fuchsia and Turquoise
Don’t forget who’s talking here, I give love to all colors, but there’s something special about mixing orange and pink with a little turquoise. Maria Barros created an excellent living room space with these hues (it’s her photo above). I wanted to pack my bags (and my wine and cheese, of course) and move in right away!
5. Favorite Room: Sunroom!
This photo is of my own sunroom but I’m really a sucker for any relaxing, sunny space. For me, my sunroom is my sanctuary. It’s the one place I can escape in the house without a TV, and sans kids–on a good day. I get to decorate with all of the colors and patterns I want. And my husband is protesting this but I’m determined to add Meg Braff’s Up in a Tree Bamboo wallpaper into that room very soon!
Thanks for reading about my 5 Favorite Things. It’s been a pleasure to be hosted by Beth today. And you are all invited over to my neck of the woods any day.

Thanks again Heather…you always make me want to go grab a paint brush and paint something- or maybe lacquer?? Either way, I am with ya on Maria Barros and cheese. Just let me know when we are leaving for Napa!
