I cannot believe this is the last round of DIY Summer School! This was a little flash of a thought back in May and I feel so lucky that everyone I approached was game. This group is no joke and I am so grateful they wanted to play along. Mainly because I draw so much inspiration from each and every one of them.

For our final week we challenged ourselves to using a material(s) “Found in Nature.”
I decided to finally use a little item I had been stalking this whole summer…
I have seen this styrofoam head so many times at the craft store and never bought it because I didn’t have a clue what I would do with it but inspiration finally struck:
{via}
I have always loved this vase so I set out to recreate something similar!
Here’s what you’ll need:
styrofoam head
drill
gold spray paint
flowers or greenery
Step 1: Drill holes in the head
I just sporadically placed them and made sure to drill down at least 5-10 inches
Tip: after drilling turn the head upside down and tap the sides to loosen all of the extra styrofoam.
Step 2: Spray paint
I had to do several coats because the paint somewhat absorbs into the styrofoam.
I found it worked better if I painted and let it dry in the shade.
Step 3: Pour water in the holes
Holding the head over the sink, I poured water into the holes.
Pat dry any overspill.
Step 4: Place flowers in holes
We are currently trying to think of the right name for her.
So far the boys have suggested “Girl” or “Harper” 🙂
Rumor has it she will be styled somewhere around my house for fall…
Please remember to go check out the other hosts to see what they were able to make with things found in nature. I can only imagine the goodness they have whipped up!
And if you have missed any of the projects, catch up here:

how fun is this! fyi there is a product made by decoart i think it is that is basically a primer/base for styrofoam and builds a layer so you don't have to do as many coats and can paint on it more easily.

Ooh thanks for the tip!!

Super cute! And, great tip from Cassie! I didn't know that. I've tried to spray paint styrofoam and it never turns out well. Good to know!

It definitely took a few coats so it's great to know that from Cassie!
