This past fall I got started on such a fun project for a client in Raleigh. They live in a gorgeous home with three equally gorgeous little girls. They were looking to decorate their playroom and wanted to steer clear of any overly-feminine decor. When we got started the room was a typical unfinished playroom: hodge podge furniture, blank walls, and toys everywhere.
The only thing that we decided to keep was the wall color (Sherwin Williams Samovar Silver) and the ceiling fan was a non-negotiable for her husband. We decided to keep the furniture comfortable but more stylish. The sectional was an awkward shape for the room so we chose something more streamlined and then added in accent pieces to make the space feel more complete.
You may have noticed a major change…the faux brick wall!
It created such a great focal point and the perfect backdrop for a gallery wall.
I chose a variety of prints from Target, HomeGoods, and Hobby Lobby to create a cohesive collage.
My client had the custom wood sign made from an Etsy shop outlining their “family rules.”
Keeping this room comfortable and conducive to sleep overs was of major importance so we chose plush materials like the shaggy rug, large microsuede nesting chair, and lots of pillows.
And, of course the details always make the room.
I absolutely love these pom-pom trimmed linen valances. They keep with our neutral sophisticated palette but have just enough quirk.
And these sconces are so pretty, even more so in real life!
I designed a custom built-in entertainment center and my client had a great idea for toy storage. She saw this idea on Pinterest and I really like how it ties into the built-in piece. I love for spaces to be pretty but more importantly, they need to function for your needs. And in this case, stuffed animals are going to be a part of this room’s function for many years to come!
Another major function of this room is craft-time! These girls love to create and I love to foster that kind of creativity. To do so you have to have inspiring decor. You may think that’s crazy but I think your environment is crucial for creativity.

Love this industrial pendant!
I had so much fun on this project and I am so happy with the results.
If you are looking for ways to update your playroom or kids spaces without going overly theme-y
