A few weeks ago I shared my plans for a hallway refresh and of course I needed all kinds of second opinions. Y’all know I can’t decorate my own house without your help! I was torn between three rugs: abstract, old school, and geometric. I sent out an S.O.S on Instagram and you all were stuck too, between abstract and old school. A lot of you believed the abstract version was “so me” and “went perfectly with my house” and I totally see that. I love the pattern and color but I was kind of itching for something that wasn’t so me. I am not afraid of having a little fun in my house but I am always afraid that it will come off too trendy or colorful so I have been wanting to add pieces in that ground things a bit.
I knew that the old school option could add a more vintage feel and still pick up some of the colors from around our house….
Of course I couldn’t be totally sure of that decision without seeing both in person so I ordered both 🙂
The old school version arrived first and I immediately loved it!
You saw it during my Summer Home Tour
I was pretty sure this was the one but I waited until the other arrived to be sure.
I really loved both in person but “old school” just felt right!
I absolutely love how it’s not my typical style because I think every house needs to stray now and then. Sticking to just one style can make a house start to feel a little too contrived.
Choosing a paint color was equally as hard. I wanted to try out the 3/4 painted wall, which is already attention-grabbing so I wanted the color to be subtle. I decided to pull out the HGTV Shewin Williams color palettes I received on my trip to NYC.
I laid out all of the palette booklets and tried to narrow in on the groupings that drew my eye.
I also had to take into consideration the other colors in our house.
For the most part our house is painted white but where there is color it is
either blue or in the grey family.
I focused on some of the more coastal palettes and looked for a neutral that would blend in.
I settled on Alpaca. It’s a beautiful beige/grey with hints of lavender in the right light.
It is such a pretty color and goes perfectly with the rest of our house.
The pallets took out a lot of the guess work which is nice because creating a color story across
your home can be really daunting. I highly recommend looking through these palettes if you are trying to choose paint colors!
