Thank you for the nice compliments on my dining room reveal yesterday! I know there weren’t any dramatic changes to the room but a few new accessories and textiles can make all the difference. The room needed a little life and I tried to bring that in with the patterned curtains, some greenery, and a small eclectic gallery wall. You can see it here, blurry in the background 🙂
To create this little spot I used a $1 Goodwill painting, my Gus and Lula print (no longer available but they have other great ones), a small wreath, and my faux “oil portrait.”
I have been longing for a true antique oil portrait but I have yet to find one that I a. like or b. can afford. It’s one of those items that you have to just luck up on at a flea market or yard sale and so far I haven’t had any luck. I could always just purchase one but they can be pricey!
When I was doing a mini makeover to my dining room I knew I needed something dark and moody to balance out all of the airy elements. I really wanted an oil painting but needed to find a solution until I could find the real deal. In comes a book! I took the jacket off an old book and framed it in a simple matted frame. This is a great inexpensive frame for this type of project.
Aside from book jackets you could use a page from an encyclopedia or coffee table book or buy a print of one of your favorite paintings. I found a huge variety of oil portrait prints just by searching Etsy….
