Each year I open up all of my boxes and bins and it’s like starting form scratch. I never have a set way of doing things so the theme changes each year. This year I really wanted to go old school traditional but with a few fresh modern touches. We are definitely in a stage where my kids get really excited about their homemade ornaments and all the cheesy stuff so I want to embrace that and create a home that is fun and exciting for them. I squeezed in a few elements that make me happy among all their stuff and the combo makes me smile.
To fit the tree in our living room we had to move one of our chairs. We ended up with a new little nook in the dining room and I kinda love it.
Yes, I see that blank wall and I already have a DIY in the works but not in time for today 🙁
I love the little peek you get from our hutch…
And there is also our festive little bar area right around the corner too…
Does it officially make me an old lady if I have a collection? I started collecting santas and I hope this is not leading to multiple cat ownership.
This is the first time I have actually decorated bedrooms for the holidays. I had fun creating a cabin feel in the boys room.
Cozy blankets, furry pillows, garland…check. check. check.
Thanks for stopping by! Let me walk you out the back door through our oh-so-festive mudroom.
I made this DIY fabric banner with some fabric I found at IKEA. It’s not necessarily “holiday” but to me it just feels wintery. I added a few berries, striped ribbon and gave it a fiddle leaf companion (not sure where that monster is going to end up just yet?) and this room feels a little more special for the holidays. And a chalkboard message that could apply to our attitudes every day of the year, not just during December!
And here is the rest of the line up for today:
