First of all, thanks for all of the love I received about my master bedroom. It is always a little scary to put you own home out there so it’s nice to read sweet comments. I especially appreciate the fact that y’all are willing to overlook things like dust, wrinkled bedding, and questionable photography.
When I shared my updated master bedroom with you on Monday, you may have also noticed my curtains.
I originally had plain white IKEA curtains and loved the simple look, but I wanted to add a little pattern to the room. I loved these Urban Outfitter curtain panels but they only come in 84 or 96 inch length. I needed something more like 101 inches in length but I decided to order them anyways just to try them in the room. I figured I could just add a solid panel or something to the hem. I quickly clipped them in front of the existing curtains and realized that I actually liked them layered like that. And it was a double win because by backing them with the white panels there is more blockage from the sun and the pattern shows up more.
You’ll also notice in this picture that I only used the patterned curtains on two of the three windows. I decided to differentiate between the two areas and I really like it. Since we had to put the bed in front of the single window, I needed to add some width to make things appear more balanced. I felt like the patterned curtains would get too busy behind all of the bedding so I decided to go with bamboo blinds for a little texture and flanked them with the simple white panels. I also continued my crazy ways by hanging the curtains differently…tab top for the white and ring clips for the patterned. Breaking the law everywhere!
If any of you have high-water curtains and are trying to make them work- maybe see how they look layered in front of a solid longer panel. I know it won’t work everywhere but it’s a good reminder that sometimes most times it’s ok to throw “the rules” out the window!
I got a lot of questions about my headboard so I wanted to make sure to tell you where I found it. We needed a headboard and frame and had looked at a lot in person. We even bought one from West Elm but, after hauling it home and setting it up, we realized that it was too tall. It covered more than half the window and just didn’t look right (always measure twice!) So, I decided to peruse the web and end up finding this one online through Sears. I was so nervous about purchasing something so big unseen but we decided to just chance it. Luckily it was perfect! The color is called Buckwheat and it’s the perfect neutral. It is a microsuede so it’s soft and cozy and cleans really well. My kids often wander around with drinks and so I find random drips here and there….because it only makes sense that my kids need to come in my room, on my bed to drink, right?!! Anyways though everything just wipes right off. I definitely recommend this headboard if you are looking for a tufted wingback option! The price is great too!

I like the layered look as well. And I like the variety you have going one with the different curtain colors and hanging styles. Relaxed and pretty! Just Perfect.

i love the layered look- gorgeous! and love the pattern! i agree about the bed- we have our bed in front of a window and i opted for white curtains, too. we have a dormer window though with nothing on it because the white won't work on it, and i am ok with that!
