I usually link up for the Best of Your Nest party the last Friday of every month but, this Friday is a little different. Tomorrow is Harper’s 2nd birthday so I wanted to post about her. This month you have heard a lot about sweet Harper…her Matilda Jane modeling and the fact that she knocked out two front teeth! Ugh that last one still makes my heart drop a little. We have had a crazy month but what’s even crazier is that this tiny sweet pea is already two.

ORC week 5: What i’ve done in one week
Well, that title might be a little misleading because I am not sure how much I can actually share. Partly because I don’t have a lot of tangible progress to show and partly because the room is so small that it’s hard to give a sneak peek without revealing the whole room. You all want the big reveal, right?! So I will just fill you in on a few things from this past week.
Let’s see…for starters I decided to do the freaking One Room Challenge!!! So there’s that. Once I jumped in I did the sensible thing and went out of town my first weekend. Smart. We headed to Raleigh for a little anniversary trip and I literally didn’t even think about the ORC, oopsie.
Choosing a rug for my living room
Last week I shared with you my new rug from RugsUSA. They have long been my go-to source for rugs because they always have a sale going and you can get a quality rug for next-to-nothing. And they have any style imaginable. In my opinion, rugs are one of, if not the most important elements in a room when it comes to expressing your style. Often times a rug is my jumping off point because I believe it sets the tone for the whole room. Calm and neutral? Bright and vibrant? Modern and patterned? You can tell a lot about room based on the rug.
When I am choosing a rug for a client I usually start my search based on my conversations with them. Have they said they want the room to be relaxing or kid-proof? Do they want the rug to fall softly into the background or pack a punch? Once I know the feel they are going for I focus on specific colors. Once I have the right feel and color I narrow in on specifics like, pattern, material, size, and shape. Here are just a few samples of rugs I have sourced in design boards:
