We have all seen and heard the stories of a child with cancer. A Facebook link to like or a blurb on the local news and each time I hear one I think about how fortunate I am to not have a sick child. The stories are never easy to hear, but they are especially chilling when you actually know the family. I can’t say I actually know Libby, but her dad was one of the first people I met in college. He was a year older than me and was sweet enough to take my roommate and I under his wing. He would invite us over for a real meal, take us to parties to meet people, and just treated us like a protective older brother. Josh is a sweetheart and continues to be one of those people that everyone just loves. That’s why the news of his 4 year-old daughter having leukemia was especially hard to hear. They have been in a serious battle with it over the past year and she had even received a bone marrow transplant successfully. Unfortunately she just relapsed. They are in the midst of figuring out the next steps and just trying to maintain life (they also have an infant son).
I can’t imagine the overwhelming emotions that come with that kind of situation. I know they have a great network of people around them helping with the day-to-day, as well as some great fundraising opportunities set up, and I wanted to share one of them here in case any of you are feeling generous. A friend of their’s is a Stella and Dot rep and is donating all proceeds from the sale of the Libby necklace (fitting name, huh?) to them to cover medical expenses.
